Throughout the history of the Congregation, social justice has been a
value to which the members have been committed. In our Constitution we
state:
We work for the development
of persons, for the improvement of human and social conditions, with
special concern for the poor, so the world and its peoples may continue
to grow in Christ.
Constitutions Article #6
At a gathering of members in 2004 this commitment was reaffirmed in
our Mission and Values Statements:
We Sisters of St. Martha, inspired by God's
graciousness, hear, embrace and respond to the
cry
for Gospel Hospitality
Supported by our Values:
Justice:
Expressed in right relationships with our sisters and brothers, God,
self, and all creation; honouring the dignity, responsibilities, and
rights of all, especially those who are poor and marginalized.
Collaboration:
As a way of being with our sisters and brothers in the pursuit of common
goals.
Service: An
essential component of our way of life characterized by a quality of
presence conducive to the development of persons.
Our Value Statements of Justice, and Collaboration and Service, serve
as the backdrop for all activities of the Social Justice Committee; our
Mission and Vision statements are our foundations as we try to be a
voice for persons who are poor and marginalized.
