STORIES FROM LOCAL GROUPS

Meet one of our Associates:
Hi, I am Barbara and I was born in Trinidad, West Indies.  I lived in Montreal and Red Deer before coming to Calgary.  I worked for the Royal Bank.  I love sports and played tennis for my country.  I come from a large family of 15.  I do a lot of volunteer work at the church and am involved with Inn From the Cold, St. Vincent de Paul, C.W.L. and Alpha.  I am proud to wear our associate pin and to be an associate of the Sisters of St. Martha.

The Sydney Mines Associates:
Our Associate group in Sydney Mines sees a need for action.  Reaching out to the needs of others in our area is a priority.  We continue to support the food bank at our local college and the Salvation Army Red Kettle Christmas program.  We are investigating how we can assist the local L'Arche community and the Frenchvale Treatment Center.

The Martha Community of Sisters and Associate each month enjoy lively conversations and a sense of community.  Some topics explored are:

  • Social Teaching of the Church and the Values of the Sisters of St. Martha

  • Trafficking of Women and Children

  • Mary, the light Mysteries of the Rosary

  • Gospel Living in Daily Circumstances
